The Springhouse Woodshop is located in an 1840 one-room schoolhouse. The classical design of this schoolhouse is very similar to other schoolhouses in Pennsylvania. Our little red schoolhouse still has it's 24 inch wide cast iron bell, 23 feet of slate chalkboard and flies an American flag high in the air. The schoolhouse is located in northwest Luzerne County and was the local school for Mossville until the late 1950's. It was then used as an antique shop in the 1980's and an art gallery in the 1990's. We moved our woodshop to the property in April of 2004. You can view many more early photos of the Mossville schoolhouse at the Lower Luzerne County website. The interior of the schoolhouse has ceilings over ten feet high, antique woodwork and a Vermont castings woodstove for heat. His and hers outhouses are the original bathrooms.
