Drawing for Murphy Bed Wall Unit with Desk and Entertainment Center

Murphy-Bed-Wall-Unit 1

The design  for this wall unit includes fixed shelves over a desk area on the far right. In the center of the wall is the queen sized Murphy bed.
The left section, near the hallway door, has a bumped out lower section that features four drawers and two doors. Above the storage is a sliding door on a hidden track that converts the visible section to expose either open bookshelves, or the television and related components. Cutouts will be used instead of pulls.

This design offers a unique bed, ample storage, a spot to park a laptop and sit, and a beautiful focal point for the apartment.

To see another “transformer” piece we’ve built incorporating a sliding door used with shelves and TV, see this post.

Details of a Bed

Here are some detailed views of the full-size walnut four post bed that was picked up from our shop by a repeat client yesterday. You can see how warm and rich the walnut looks when it has been finish sanded, treated to amber shellac, and and lacquered (satin sheen). The headboard tenon is floating in a single mortise in each post.  The solid wood support slats fit over dowels that hold them in place (next to last photo). The bolts that hold the bed together are hidden by matching walnut teardrop shaped bolt covers.
